Hello and welcome to insightsdude.uk!

So, who is this dude?

My name is Artis Lismanis. I’m a data professional based in the UK with over 17 years of experience working in the airline and automotive sectors. Given how quickly the data space is evolving, just writing this down made me feel data ancient! Let’s rephrase that. I’ve been through data to information to knowledge stages of my career and now am embracing that coveted wisdom stage.

What excites me professionally is unlocking business value by skilfully combining the art and science of data, and amplifying this through high performing teams. I fancy myself as a Chief Insights Dude, a datasmith crafting business impact. ‘Chief’ gives you an air of authority. ‘Insights’ is how you unlock value from data. ‘Dude’ injects a bit playfulness into everything you do. ‘Datasmith’ may sound medieval, but, for me, it embodies the elements of craft, mastery, continuous improvement, and a combination of curiosity and creativity to push the boundaries.

My passion for data never sleeps. I tinker and keep learning all hours. ‘Growth mindset’ is my second name. I sometimes wonder if it is a blessing or a curse when the only thing that separates work from fun is whether you have your work email open or not. Does it really matter if you are enjoying yourself?

If it’s not clear already, I don’t take myself too seriously. But can totally be real serious when needed. You should see my passport photo. It has this Eastern European thug vibe, as if I could cause some serious damage just by looking. That’s how serious!

Why this website?

This website is the main destination for my professional brand, a way to showcase my skills and experience. You’ve been warned! Expect a cheeky dose of self-promotion (sell, sell, sell!).

Fundamentally, however, this is the place where I intend to share my thoughts, learnings and insights. What can you expect to find here? A bit of everything. Think of it as a bowl of data allsorts.

In my role as senior data leader I ponder subjects like crafting business impact, defining data strategies and building high performing teams. I explore technology trends and assess new approaches. I think about relationship building, influencing, and business change methodologies. All those fuzzy topics, with context specific answers.

While I’m no longer an individual contributor, I like to keep my technical skills sharp. Whether it’s a bit of data munging, creating visualisations or exploring advanced analytics I try to find opportunities to roll up my sleeves both at work and through personal projects. Expect details of technical experiments, how-tos, and sometimes just useful one-liners that I note down for my own future reference.

And then there are general topics of interest like self-improvement, personal knowledge management, book reviews, and just my wider reflections.
